We all want to be healthier versions of ourselves and improve our overall well-being . Most of the time , we tend to concentrate only on the body , focusing on our physical health . While this is important , it ’ s not the only component of well-being we should be improving . To achieve optimal and lasting health , we need to understand the importance of the body , mind and soul and how they work together . A healthy body keeps you well and active . A healthy mind keeps you focused and engaged . A healthy soul keeps you fulfilled and content . That ’ s why you don ’ t have to be sick to benefit from treatment . Psychotherapy and counselling can provide much needed interaction and emotional support when dealing with stressful issues or life transitions . Bodywork including acupuncture and massage therapy can be a luxurious treat , stress relief , or provide pain management . Tapping into our soul - a place of mindfulness - allows us to become more aligned with our purpose and being able to live to our greatest potential . By focusing on all aspects of ourselves - mind , body and soul - we have the opportunity to discover and grow into the truest version of ourselves . This whole health approach helps us feel more centered when we deal with uncertainty or specific challenges . That ’ s why our whole health approach focuses on mindfulness , mental health and the mind-body connection . - Kristina Dragnea , Registered Psychotherapist , Mindful Maelstrom , www . mindfulmaelstrom . com

Personality has always been a fascinating area of research over the years . We ’ ve correlated certain jobs with personalities , certain types of crimes , health problems , communication styles , and relationship challenges with people who simply fit into a specific category of personality . The boxes we metaphorically check have impact and are associated with stereotypes , failure and success . We are raised in an extroverted society , where being overtly funny , loud , and gregarious is sought after , and being quiet is often labeled as rude , withdrawn , socially awkward , or meek . Introversion is often undervalued , and as such , is often misunderstood .
Generally speaking , introverts don ’ t hate people , they hate shallow socializing . They feel energized when focusing deeply on a subject or activity that really interests them . Introverts re-energize with quiet time , as opposed to gaining energy from others . When given the choice , they devote social energy to a small group of people they care about most , preferring interactions with a close friend to a party full of strangers . Introverts internally process , reflecting and analysing before speaking , have a more deliberate approach to risk and they enjoy solitude .
Merrill-Wilson describes two different types of introversion . The Analytical is a fact-based introvert who is constantly assessing , determining pros and cons and making lists of to do items . Analytical types are constantly asking questions , almost to the point of getting too much information . The Amiable is a relationship introvert , focusing on quality relationships over quantity . They seem to constantly be relaxed and desire a peaceful environment over anything else .
Research has also highlighted that introverts thrive in their rich , complex inner lives . They pay attention to their inner feelings , being constantly reflective and pensive resulting in higher emotional selfawareness and higher focus on the emotions of others as opposed to their extroverted counterparts . In the workplace , introverts are usually less interdependent meaning they need less supervision , have high attention to detail , and cultivate deep relationships with close co-workers . Introverts often have vibrant imaginations , are capable of great focus , and tend to process large amounts of information efficiently . These strengths of introversion are continuously being expanded upon , and as psychological research expands , we ’ ll continue to see the benefits of being the homebodies , the quiet ones , the shy friends , and the observers . - Skylark Counselling , www . skylarkclinic . ca
