MADDIE & KIKI ’ S TOP 5 TIPS TO GRILLING THE BEST BURGER .
PREHEAT YOUR GRILL FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES
When grilling burgers , you want to preheat your grill on high heat for a minimum of 10 minutes . Properly preheating your grill ensures that food will not stick to the grill , and you can achieve those beautiful grill marks that we all know and love !
ONLY FLIP BURGERS ONCE !
Whether you ’ re grilling a traditional beef burger or a plantbased burger ( we are currently OBSESSED with NotBurger !), you want to flip your burgers ONCE ! Not twice , not five times , not 18 times ! Flip it one time and one time only ! Not only is flipping your burger multiple times a complete waste of time , it causes those precious , flavorful juices to leak out into the grill .
GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR BURGER TOPPINGS
The traditional cheeseburger will always have a place in everyone ’ s heart , but why not let your creativity soar and try something new ! We love fusing two delicious ideas together , creating a brand-new reason to love a juicy burger . For instance , Caesar salad is everyone ’ s favorite salad for good reason , it ’ s delicious ! We recently developed the Caesar Salad Burger , and even blew our own minds with how awesome it was ! Swap out the traditional burger bun with grilled sliced baguette that acts as the crouton of the Caesar salad . Instead of using mayonnaise on this burger , we add Caesar salad dressing . Every burger needs lettuce , so we used crisp romaine leaves topped with Parmesan and the juice of a grilled lemon wedge . It ’ s an impressive yet simple way to blow your guests ' minds at your next backyard BBQ !
NEVER PRESS BURGER PATTIES WITH A SPATULA
Pressing , squeezing , or smashing burger patties on a grill is never ok . It causes juices to be pushed out of the patty and into the grill . The only , and we repeat , the ONLY time it is appropriate to press patties is while making smash burgers on a griddle . When grilling on a traditional grill , burgers are never to be poked or prodded during grilling .
ONLY SEASON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BURGER
We have seen many home chefs break this rule over and over again . They get overzealous when it comes to making homemade burgers by adding bread crumbs , herbs and onions . While these are delicious ingredients for meatballs or meatloaf , they have no right to show up in a burger . Allow the meat or plant-based meat flavors to shine by only seasoning the outside of the patty with salt and pepper or your favorite BBQ rub . - Maddie and Kiki , www . maddieandkiki . com
