The goal for this project was to create a sophisticated , elegant space with a hint of European flair that would blend the husband ' s love for traditional historic design with the wife ' s preference towards modern , contemporary styles . The homeowners wanted to create the feeling of a luxurious hotel that they could retreat to at the end of the day . Despite being unable to change the structural layout of the room , designer Susan Jomha was able to incorporate many of the things on their wish list including extra storage , a TV and mini closet .
This design utilizes contrast of colors to draw attention to the trichotomy of wood , stone , and glass . The custom feature wall includes a beautiful chevron pattern made of hardwood flooring that distinguishes the Nero Marquina porcelain slab centered on the wall . The latter part of the wall is a slim illusion strategically placing custom-cut mirrors in between black-painted , fluted wooden slats laid vertically from floor-to-ceiling . This feature wall is the highlight of the room adding emphasis to the juxtaposed furniture and bespoke layered light fixture .
The designer was able to splurge on the custom light fixture , a full slab of porcelain and high-quality furniture . To make the most of the budget , leftover hardwood flooring pieces were cut to shape to create the chevron pattern . An extra cut of stone was used on the adjacent wall next to the full height mirror for the TV wall . This was a great way to make full use of the materials without overpowering the space . This
