To give the kitchen a grander feel , Lymburner opted for an open-concept approach , removing a wall between the kitchen and family rooms . “ We increased functionality with extra seating in the peninsula and additional counter space in the newly-created buffet area ,” she adds .
The homeowners also requested the addition of a home office space , which Lymburner created in an extra sitting room . “ The position of the office is perfect because it allows for privacy . We brought in bold navy and emerald accents which infused a new energy to the room ,” she says .
On the whole , the home is neutral , elevated with a few bold accents . “ We wanted to keep the mood tranquil yet elegant and bright ,” says Lymburner . “ We leaned towards soft shades particularly in the family room , allowing the art to come through . These pieces express character and introduce some fun colors to the home . They allow for imagination .”
The homeowners chose to splurge on transforming the home ’ s major focal points , including the kitchen , fireplace , and staircase .
“ Ultimately as we look back , these are truly the most transformed areas of the home .” says the homeowner . “ We were able to save on other areas . We sanded and stained the second-floor hardwood as opposed to completely replacing it .”
