For Designers Trish Knight and Nicole Varga , this renovation was personal as the homeowner was also family ! Homeowners Alyssa Parsons and Michael Varga came to them with the desire to create a bright , light kitchen and living area for their young family . Michael is a firefighter with a passion for cooking and has turned his love of food into a very successful side gig . This kitchen needed to have a large prep space suitable for a chef but also needed to offer function for casual family meals . Inspired by his father , who loved to cook , it comes naturally for Michael to cook with his kids and spend time together with his family in the kitchen .
Full height garage style cabinets are a key feature in this kitchen . They allow to hide the mess while still keeping everything at arm ’ s reach . A large kitchen island provides ample work surface for cooking and serving . A built-in seating area at the end of the island and adjacent lounge area allows the family to gather and be part of the action .
Touches of gold in the lighting and hardware add a luxurious feel to the otherwise casual place . It ’ s the thoughtful details that really make this space shine , from the custom range hood to the builtin microwave , apron sink , x detail on the island cabinets and stainless steel appliances . A simply , affordable subway tile backsplash works beautifully in this kitchen and allowed room in the budget to splurge on a high-end range and stunning countertops .
When planning a kitchen renovation , Trish and Nicole suggest you take time to really think about how you use your space and what is important to you . This will help your designer know how to create a kitchen that is both beautiful but also highly functional for your own personal needs .
