WHEN’S THE RIGHT TIME TO PRUNE A SHRUB? The general rule of thumb is you never prune a shrub until after it’s bloomed. Once it’s bloomed, you usually have a few weeks before that shrub sets flower buds for the next season. If you are unsure or your shurb doesn’t bloom, don’t prune it until all the leaves have fallen off. Once it’s gone dormant, it’s much easier for the plant to recover after heavy pruning. The challenge faced here is that most of the dining areas are designed with the nearby wall space for placing a hutch. In this dining room, shelving installed on the wall maximizes the space and avoids the need of a hutch. Instead of filling the shelves with the typical plates and cups, we staged it as a modern tea lounge with books, greenery and even the homeowner’s guitar. It is important not to over-fill open shelving to keep from making the room look cluttered. - New Concept Home Staging, - Carson Arthur will appear in Season 4 of Home to Win, premiering on HGTV Canada this fall. ICF is short for Insulated Concrete Forms. ICF blocks are fitted togeth- er, laced with rebar and filled with concrete. The thick concrete core protects against heat, cold, noise, pollution, allergens, fire and mother nature herself for a stronger, more energy efficient, quiet and comfortable home. They are light and easy to assemble, allowing projects to be completed quicker then traditional con- struction projects. ICF is also a green choice as they do not de- grade or decay, lose it’s insulative value over time and is designed with a repeating interlock pattern, so during construction there is less waste. The result is a healthier, more efficient home that can stand up to just about anything. - WALL-Up Carpentry, www.wall-upcarpentry.ca
