“One of the simplest ways to update your
home is with paint color, but choosing the
right color can be difficult. With so many
colors to choose from, I firmly believe that
your home should be a reflection of your
personality and style.” - Christine Da Costa,

The colors you gravitate to is your
first clue. Take a walk through your
closet and see what colors you wear
most often. For example, if you wear
a lot of blue then why not bring some
blue into your home via paint colors
and accents.
I get asked often; “If my closet is full
of black clothing, can I paint my home
black?” Guess what? Black is the new
Black! Black is having its moment in
interior design. It really is classic and
chic and perfect if you really want to
go with a bold dramatic statement.
Kitchen cabinets, powder rooms,
bedrooms and offices are some great
options to use this bold color.
If black is too bold a choice, then
consider adding Navy as an option.
It’s a gorgeous hue that goes with
almost any other accent color.
Now if you are thinking of selling
your home in the near future, you
may want to consider a “safer” color
choice. And you can’t go wrong
with a lovely neutral. Some of my
favorites I like to recommend tend
to be in the gray family, cooler grays
with blue undertones. Warmer
tones or as designers like to call it –
“greige,” tend to go with almost any
permanent fixture in your home such
as hardwood flooring and tiles.
Before you jump into any color
choice, always test a few paint colors
on your wall and look at it at different
times of the day before committing. -

PRO TIPS FROM INTERIOR DESIGNER TANIYA NAYAK:
USE THE RIGHT TOOLS:
DIY projects can save money,
but don’t skimp on the tools
needed to ensure an expert-like
outcome. When painting, make
sure to use a premium painter’s
tape, like FrogTape® brand
painter’s tape, to achieve the
sharpest paint lines possi-
ble and professional-looking
results.
PICK PAINT SHADES LAST:
Shop the look you want by find-
ing the décor pieces you need,
like a rug or duvet. Once you
have all your goods, lay them
on the floor and then select
a paint color based on those
accessory finds.
