letter from
doug KNUTH
Dear men’s basketball fans:
I want to thank you for your continued support of Wolf Pack men’s basketball. Coach
Musselman and the team have provided some great memories the last few seasons and the
2018-19 season will be another special year.
I recently sent a letter to all fans expressing our belief that we are at a pivotal moment for Wolf Pack athletics, a time when we, as a
community, have to decide if we are going to Invest in Success or sit back and hope someone else will.
This new level of investment comes from buying season tickets, which helps the department bottom line; supporting the team’s
booster club (Starting Five), which helps men’s basketball; and supporting the Pack Educational Fund, which helps all teams.
Please ask your ticket account representative for more information.
Following back-to-back Mountain West Conference (MW) regular season championships, and consecutive NCAA tournament
appearances including a Sweet Sixteen run, I felt it was necessary to increase season ticket prices in some areas of Lawlor Events
Center to align with the championship caliber program. Your season ticket purchase provides funding for the entire athletics
program and allows us to build/sustain a championship program for all sports. Raising prices is not taken lightly and we believe
the new prices are fair relative to the championship basketball program we have enjoyed the last few years.
For example, in the MW, our new ticket prices rank in the top half of the Conference but are not the highest. In fact, our Courtside
seats are third behind San Diego State and Wyoming. Our average Lower Bowl season ticket price ranks fourth behind UNLV, New
Mexico and San Diego State, while our average Upper Bowl season ticket price is tied for third behind New Mexico and San Diego
State. I understand the nature of averages and comparisons like this - all basketball arenas are not configured the same and all
communities are not the same.
The most important thing in these comparisons is the quality of the basketball programs and athletics programs. San Diego
State (six regular season and five tournament) and New Mexico (four regular season and four tournament) have won more men’s
basketball championships than any other program. The overall department success is hard to ignore as well with SDSU winning 38
regular season MW championships in all sports while New Mexico has claimed 17
championships. These basketball teams and athletics programs are well rounded
and highly successful.
We are positioning Wolf Pack athletics to compete at the highest level and win
MW championships in men’s basketball and all sports. Your ticket purchases,
sport-specific donations, and Pack Educational Fund donations will help us build
and sustain the championship basketball program and athletics program we all
want.
Thank you again for your tremendous support.
Go Pack!
Doug
