Right prescription for
Plumb Center
Ecobuild, and with it, Practical Installer is over for another year. Plumb Center
reports on securing another successful event under its belt
ractical Installer, which took
place at London’s ExCeL last
month, aimed to help installers
learn more about renewables
and energy efficiency, and help
renewables companies create more successful
businesses.
Visitors were privy to talks from suppliers
and industry experts, as well as Plumb
Center’s Business Clinic, central support and
design service. They were encouraged to get
involved with every aspect of the show to
really reap the rewards for their businesses.
“We had a great turnout for Practical
Installer this year,” said Plumb Center’s head
of sustainability Tim Pollard.
“Visitors ranged from a couple who
wanted to find out how to make their holiday
home self-sustainable, to representatives
from local councils - and of course major
renewables businesses.”
P
Talking the talk
People go to exhibitions to get detailed and
expert information on the subject at hand, and
Practical Installer was no different. Visitors
were treated to informative talks from industry
suppliers such as Mitsubishi, Dimplex, Gran
& Trianco in the Practical Installer Live Arena,
hosted by regular presenter David Kurk.
Installers were able to watch seminars on
subjects like keeping their customers’ bills
down and how to identify a customer who
might be interested in renewables.
Scheming for success
This year, Practical Installer focused on
helping installers make their renewables
business a profitable success. The onsite
Business Clinic allowed installers to sit down
with Plumb Center’s renewables experts

to talk about what would be best for their
companies.
In these meetings visitors were told
about the Energy Efficiency Installer Plus
Scheme. The scheme has been designed to
help renewables installers, who are MCS
accredited, get the most out of their business.
Scheme members will be able to talk with
Plumb Center’s dedicated team to get great
advice for their company. They will be first
to know of Plumb Center’s latest renewables
deals and promotions, as well as being invited
to events in their area in partnership with
Plumb Center’s suppliers.
Members will also be able to take
advantage of training courses, not only in the
use of technology, but in sales as well.
By design
One of the major features of the scheme is its
Computer Aided Design (CAD) service. The
CAD service is run by dedicated designers
who take members’ relevant information
and produce detailed digital representations
for air source heat pump, biomass boiler or
underfloor heating projects.
The CAD service, and the Energy
Efficiency Installer Scheme as a whole, is
designed to help members through the
job process from start to finish with useful
resources like heat loss calculations, sizing,
heating installation drawings, full underfloor
layout drawings and a schedule of materials.
By the book
Practical Installer visitors were able to
get their hands on Plumb Center’s latest
renewables products and services brochure.
The brochure gives readers in-depth
information on the renewable and energy
efficient products on sale at Plumb Center like

and Windhager’s BioWIN series biomass

The brochure also helps breakdown
how installers can get involved with the
RHI financial support programme, as well
as an outline of the MCS accredited courses
available with Plumb Center and its training
partners.
The final word
“We took great heart from working with our
visitors this year,” said Tim. “They took a great
interest in our Energy Efficiency Installer
Scheme, and were very enthusiastic about
getting to grips with our new Computer Aided
Design service – it’s going to be a profitable
year for installers, and an excellent year for
renewable energy!”
