Resident of the Year
MARY HEWITSON
CHARTWELL CARRINGTON PLACE, VERNON, BC
Every year, the British Columbia Seniors Living Association (BCSLA)
presents an award to one deserving resident of a BCSLA member
residence. Nominees typically help to inspire their fellow residents,
promote community involvement and make valuable contributions to
the overall quality of life at their residence.
We are thrilled to announce that this year, Mary Hewitson, resident
at Chartwell Carrington Place, was honoured to take home the
prestigious award.
Mary’s journey at Chartwell Carrington Place in Vernon, BC began in
August of 2014. Though she was unfamiliar with the area, her outgoing
personality helped her quickly adapt to her new surroundings. Before
long, she found herself getting involved in many of the residence’s
various programs, including the Java Music Club, Gardening Club and
the Ambassador Club, where she
assisted in helping new residents with
their orientation, encouraging them
to join programs and participate in
what the residence has to offer.
“It’s a wonderful privilege to have all
of the amenities and programs avail-
able for everyone,” says Mary.
“I want to make sure my fellow residents
are getting the best out of their
retirement.”

Carrington Place, knew Mary would be the
perfect candidate for the award.

Council, and if that wasn’t enough, she also volunteers to help celebrate

even more elated to accept the award at the
BCSLA’s Annual Conference in Whistler, BC.
“I felt very honoured to be nominated and to
receive the award at such a beautiful venue,”
says Mary, who attended the ceremony with
her son. “It was exciting and a bit nerve-racking,
but I was treated like a Queen.”
