Remodel Tampa Bay Fall/Winter 2015 | Page 19

Q and A with the Home Owner, Theresa Baggett How do you you feel about the overall remodel? Contractor Issues and Solutions • Meant relocating kitchen about 12’ and removing many walls, some load bearing •H ad to install new beam, a flat roof tie-in at a pitched roof prevented hiding the beam in attic • Wanted a gas cooktop, added a gas line all the way from garage • Had to install 1 column for beam and the column landed right in the middle of the kitchen • Designed island around column, putting sink centered to the column, used backsplash material to decorate column and tie-in with remaining kitchen areas • Also centered the fridge under the beam to make the upper cabinets work with the beam Fall | Winter 2015 • Made the island with a nice curve to also help keep the eye away from the column and made for more intimate conversations with guests sitting at the bar • Lighting was expertly placed to offer ample, yet balanced lighting over bar top of island, around beam and sink position • Used wood plank tile throughout the house to tie-in all areas; floors were uneven and full of settlement cracks. We used crack isolation membranes and self-leveling materials to achieve an even, flat floor that will retard cracking for years to come. • We cut a new opening in the block wall to add a window and installed ThermaTru Full Lite French doors to take advantage of the beautiful view from the back yard. • A warm cabinet finish from KraftMaid along with a unique mixture of glass tiles in the backsplash gives the kitchen an eclectic feel with a traditional tone (can use some help here with wording!) • The single, deep bowl sink allows plenty of room for storing used cocktail and appetizer ware before dinner starts, keeping the bar top open for more entertaining! Doug and his team did a phenomenal job with the project. I interviewed 4 contractors and felt really comfortable with Doug from the time we met. Communication was an important factor for me since we live out of town and would not be there to oversee the project. I really liked the builder trend website so I could see the schedule and progress photos. He kept in constant communication with me and was quick to respond when I had questions. Would you recommend King Contracting? Yes and I have! As a matter of fact he is working on a large remodel project down the street from our house now! Would you use King Contracting again? Yes, I’m hoping to get our bathrooms remodeled next and then we will be done! Remodel Tampa Bay 19
