Conway Critters have their own stories to tell

There ’ s a fun , educational activity downtown that might be hiding in plain sight .
It includes eight critters that “ crawl ” the streets of Conway , but no one is afraid of these critters , and animal control workers don ’ t even try to shoo them away .
That ’ s because these critters are made of bronze .
The critters , the brainchild of former Conway City Councilwoman Jean Timbes , were crafted by three Coastal Carolina University students – Erin Ryan , Chris Kunk and Brittany Clark — under the direction of Coastal Carolina University assistant professor of art Alexandra Knox .
The critters are Maggie the Squirrel , Augustus the Alligator , Sweet Pea the Rabbit , Maisie the Mouse , Gaston the Frog , Timmy

Many city-connected people , including Timmy Williams , Sanford Graves , Debbie Smith , Tom Anderson , Hillary Howard , Josh Tietje , Barbara Blain-Bellamy and Adam Emrick provided voices for the critters .
Timbes says she got the idea from Greenville ’ s Mice on Main that is designed for entertainment only , but the Conway Critters project goes a little further offering an overall message of diversity .
