Built in 1914 , the Belle is the oldest operating steamboat in the United States and a National Historic Landmark . She and her smaller sister ship , the Spirit of Jefferson , offer tours , and lunch and dinner cruises .

The opening of the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge linking Louisville ’ s sweeping Waterfront Park with Jeffersonville ’ s new Big Four Station leading into a historic downtown has spurred a renaissance in the city .

The George Rogers Clark home site contains a reproduction cabin and slave quarters . General Clark , famous in his own right for his military campaigns , was the brother of William Clark who famously teamed up with Meriwether Lewis for the Corps of Discovery Expedition . It is argued that the Lewis and Clark Expedition can be said to have started from Clarksville , rather than St . Louis .
