When did you realize you wanted to act?
From grade 1 i went to a very arty school, music was compulsory, we had to do a play once a year, so i think my acting journey started from above the age of 7, i was involved in a lot of things, i did gymnastics, ballet, i did dance, I've always been in the arts. i never seen myself doing something else, also with music, initially i wanted to be a dancer and i kind of fell into acting along the way, so its something i grew up with.
Childhood and were parents always supportive?
When i was in primary school so when i was 7, i did have a normal childhood, it was normal for me as it was a school activity but i just fell in love with being on stage to the point even when i got to high school my mom was not surprised when i said okay this is what i wanna do for the rest of my life, she was not necessarily happy about it because she wanted me to do something else, she was like it does not seem like a solid career but i guess she was scared because she did not know much about it but i made sure i invite her to my shows and it took some other family members to convince her
How would you say you have grown as an actress?
Back then i was still in varsity i was doing my second year so i was still getting into the whole acting thing and I've grown, i have grown immensely. i was very young then, i was nervous back then but now i am becoming more grounded and i feel like you will forever grow, it does not you act till you die...so i am trusting myself a bit more than before, the nerves are less than before, there'll always be nerves but i think i am more confident than i was back then.
Similarities between Getty and Andisiwe
When you play someone for that long, you blend into them the minute you read the script and see their dialogue you kinda flow in their way of speaking you, you flow into that character so for me i think when i go through my script is when i find her and her emotions like i said earlier you have to draw from your own life that's the only way you can be truthful in telling that story of that character, i think for me its drawing from my life and emotions especially when it comes to crying its something i struggle with for the longest time.
Difference between the old Getty and the new one?
To step into a more matured Getty i had to create a journey for myself from when she was that teenage to now that she is a young working woman, so it was in terms of how different the two people were but i found the balance somewhere somehow and i had to take a bit of the old Getty and use her on this one but it was actually great for me as an actress, i mean what is the point of acting if you do not play different things and i get to play two different girls in two different worlds.
How do you handle bad publicity and criticism?
Luckily for me I've never been in a situation where I've had bad things written about me so i cant really speak on that but we do get a lot of cyber bullying on social media but we do grow a thick skin, its people behind the the computer or a phone who probably think you do not have feelings and they think they can say whatever they want, the best thing to do is to isolate yourself and focus on what you do, because caring about what everyone says will completely destroy your confidence, in your work and in yourself, you must constantly build your confidence so that you become unbreakable..you do grow a thick skin because you are constantly criticize, i was once body shamed
