Things like funerals, weekly mass, festivals, or singing certain songs help people come closer to their god. I started this project thinking that rituals and ceremonies were the human component of religions, and this is why we insisted on them, and why we though them to be of such importance. I thought we create these things to have something tangible that we can cling to, something that we can explain when explanations for other things are absent. However, as I talked to the wonderful people that helped me put this together

I realized that what may be even more important than these rituals, is the community in which they happen. Is it in our nature as people to look for other people to connect with? Even when we’re attempting to connect with something divine? In the end, maybe Aristotle was right saying we’re all zoon politikon.
