with Calvin Ghost Bear
President of the Horse Nations Indian Relay Council
I
hope all teams and families are finally getting to see the signs
of spring with warmer temperatures and green grass. Here in South
Dakota and Wyoming we are still dealing with snow and moisture. The
HNIRC board had to make the decision to reschedule our season opener
in Gillette, Wyoming to August 31 & September 1. It is a decision that no
board ever wants to make but the safety of our teams, riders, and horses
will always come first.
On behalf of the Great Sioux Nation and Horse Nations Relay Council
we would like to invite all relay team to the 1st annual Sioux Nation
Challenge in our state capitol Fort Pierre, South Dakota June 29 & 30,
2019. Buckles and jackets (sponsored by Wrangler) will be presented to
the Champion Relay Team, Chief, Warrior, Maiden racers and Youth relay
team on Sunday.
The Northern Arapaho Tribe, sponsored the opening ceremonies
during the 2018 event, and has again agreed to sponsor and take part in
the Wind River Tour of Champions Indian Relay Races in Gillette, Wyo-
ming August 31 & September 1. Buckles and jackets will be presented at
this race to the champion Indian Relay, Youth Relay, Chief, Warrior, and
Maiden race on Sunday.
Relay teams, please be sure to get your horses coggins tested and
health inspections prior to the first race of the season, our staff will
be checking for these documents prior to entry at the stalling area at
races.
Reminder for all Relay Teams who have not completed 2019 Memberships, please do so by going to our website
and printing the application. As of today, we have a total of 22- teams who took advantage of the early registration
