Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage is a highly specialised for of massage, which uses light, rhythmical, very precise hand movements, pressures and sequences and requires the therapist to develop a great degree of skill, having an intimate knowledge of the working of the anatomy of the lymphatic system. The massage works on the skin level to influence the direction and speed of the lymphatic flow, redirecting if necessary. MLD is a powerful detoxifier and is in huge demand due to the toxic overloads in our modern-day lifestyles. The aim is to restore equilibrium in the tissues and ensure that which enters equals to which departs. In the 1930’s Dr Emil and Astrid Vorder treated chronic sinusitis and other immune disorders, when it was notice by Dr’s Vorder, that people with chronic colds had swollen lymph nodes. Two years later they started to develop a careful hand movement which aided the lymph to move and only in 1936 introduced these techniques in Paris, France.
