REI EXPO COMES TO CALIFORNIA MEET TIM HERRIAGE, THE FOUNDER OF THE REI EXPO STEPHANIE B. MOJICA You won’t find Tim sugar-coating the facts. He hopes people realize that whether he is speaking to a roomful or to just one person, he is on a personal mission to tell only the truth. He knows the people who go into this business thinking they’ll “get rich quick”, but who are not prepared for the hard work and long hours are the people who will not be successful. In an average month, Herriage and his team members buy five to seven houses. About half of those will be wholesaled, some will be “flipped” and No, he didn’t inherit the business. No, he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. In fact, he is others will be maintained in a rental portfolio. But, that makes it sound easy. one of those “good ole boys” who grew up in Northeast Texas where the heart of seven generations of the Herriage family has beaten for more than 100 years. He prides himself on his honesty and strives to always be candid and up front, regardless of whom he is talking to. The truth is that Herriage Homes works with some of the most challenging cases in the industry, like unwanted and rundown rentals, properties in need of major repairs, short sales, quick sales and divorce sales, as well as pending foreclosures and bankruptcy liquidations. Right out of high school, in 1996, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps. In his relatively short military career he distinguished himself as an intelligence analyst and learned invaluable leadership skills that have served him well ever since he decided to return home to Northeast Texas in 2001. Since that time he has focused on becoming the best real estate investor possible and now wants to help others to do the same. “It takes me about 15 to 20 minutes to walk through your house and make you a cash offer,” Herriage explains. “I take the house as-is. You don’t have to make repairs or even clean it out if you don’t want to. You take what you want and you leave the rest.” Herriage and his group of experts can help a distressed homeowner get out of virtually any housing situation, even when the circumstances make it seem impossible. “I got my quick start in this business by meeting people who were willing to help me, and I try to do the same. I love buying houses, but hate the fluff and hype some put behind it,” he said. “The truth is that it is really hard work, but it is hard work that pays off.” “The purpose of the REI Expo is education and networking. The last thing attendees want is to sit through a weekend of sales pitches.”
