7 . Project Prioritisation
The RPMG uses the following decision based framework :
A project idea or concept is introduced to the RPMG for discussion and consideration . Projects may fall into one or two of the following categories :
STEP 1 Inception and scoping
Known pest Research New incursion
STEP 2 Validation
The RPMG Committee will review the project idea or concept in further detail :
• Is the pest species considered a high priority in Local Government Biosecurity Plans ?
• Does the project address an identified research gap ?
• How does the project align to the Goals and Objectives of the Strategy ?
• Can project resources be secured ?
• Is there support in favour of the project (> 50 % Committee votes )?
STEP 3 Planning and initation
A project leader is appointed to lead the development and initiation of the project , including the project team . NQ Dry Tropics Regional Pest Management Officer ( RPMO ) will provide project management assistance and may in some instances , be the project leader . A detailed Project Plan including resourcing , stakeholder roles and responsibilities , scheduling , outcomes , community and monitoring requirements , is developed and annual project activities are included in the RPMG work plan .
Feedback loop :
• What did our evaluation tell us ? What and how will we do things differently this time round ?
FEEDBACK LOOP
STEP 4 Implementation , monitoring and evaluation
The RPMO will continue to provide project management support to the project leader and team for the duration of the project . This includes ensuring projects follow the outlined MERI requirements for efficient and effective project delivery .
Feedback loop :
• How do our results and outcomes compare with our efforts the first time round ?
STEP 5 Project end-group evaluation
The project team will perform a project-end evaluation to ensure the learnings from each project are documented and can be used to inform the delivery of future projects or to change our current approach to maximise results .
The RPMG recognises that pest management is a dynamic field and that the Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM region is constantly under threat from new pest incursions . Consequently , the RPMG acknowledges the need to :
• maintain up-to-date knowledge on pest species distribution ;
• adaptively manage its approach and projects in response to project learnings and funding changes ; and
• proactively respond to new pest incursions .
