GEM CITY CHORUS, DAYTON, OHIO Gem City has had a lively summer so far. We sang the National Anthem at the Dayton Dragons baseball game and we performed once again at a Twilight Concert of the Dayton Art Institute. We were the star attraction at the College Women’s Association luncheon at the Moraine Country Club and we entertained at the Troy Strawberry Festival. Gems enjoyed the SINGsation weekend at Kings Island, especially the wisdom and presentation skills of Darlene Rogers, the Kwerky Kwartet contest, the humor of the iTones as emcees, and the opportunity to meet some of our new Region 4 sisters. Our associate director, Deb Bringman will be attending the Sweet Adelines “Side by Side” Directors’ Seminar at Chapman University in Pomona, California later this month. Deb, who recently retired after thirty years as a high school choral director in Tipp City, was presented with Gem City’s Sweet Adeline of the Year Award at our installation dinner. With her substantial experience and knowledge, she has been a strong contributor to our success over the years, and we are so proud of her. Under the leadership of our new President, Mary Lynn Woebkenberg, the Chorus is participating in a series of goal-setting sessions to determine our path forward focused on chorus input. We have PVIs with Debbie Cleveland (Showtime & The Buzz) and dates with other coaches scheduled into next year to focus on continued improvement. As we learn a stack of new music, we’re delighted to have several prospective new members who have passed their voice tests. Do stay cool, we plan to! JULY 2013 Page 5
