ello Vibes Sound based in Toronto Canada was established in 1989
with Victor (owner), Hulky, Jugis, Skully and Master Lee, playing the
best in reggae and urban music. They started playing at house parties then
gradually worked their way up to school dances; by the mid-nineties they
had established a fan-base which lead them to be the house Dj in a few
clubs including Arrows, Boardline and Club Cool C.
The successes of Mello Vibes lead the selectors to branch off to form their
own promotional companies. In 2003 Swan Entertainment was established.
Swan Entertainment is a promotion company that promotes events and
specializes in Sound Clash; they provide a platform for the Sounds System
to show their skills. A few of their events include the G.T.A Cup Clash,
Wanted, Bodybag and No Escape. Swan Entertainment has also been
involved with Sound Rage, Rising Star, and Canada Rumbl e.
Jaro, Bodyguard, Black Kat, Mighty Crown and
King Addies to name a few. The crew has trav-
elled to Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad, Bermuda,
St Vincent, the Bahamas, Europe; and of
course all over Canada and the USA. What sets
Rootsman apart from other sounds in the busi-
ness is their unique collection of dubs featuring
many exclusive and customized riddims.
Between clashing and numerous weekly
events, they are in high demand in the juggling
arena. Rootsman is currently one of the most
talked about at any juggling event in Toronto.
ROOTSMAN SOUND
F
rom its conception in the garrison of Jane
and Finch; Toronto’s notorious ‘badman’ ter-
ritory in 1997, Rootsman has evolved as one of
Canada’s top clash sound. Clashing with many
of the greatest sounds in the Industry such as
Rootsman also keeps busy with their highly
anticipated CD collection of Roots and Culture,
keeping it rootical, and many others which they
feature quarterly. Rootsman has been on many
world stages in the Clash arena such as ‘World
Clash 2010’ (JA), ‘Riddim Clash’ (Germany),
‘Global Clash’ (NY) 2010, ‘Worries in the Area’
(Italy) and local brand at home such as ‘Wanted’
and ‘Tap Out’, of which Rootsman is the current
Champion. Rootsman Sound is currently the
two time back to back champion at Montreal
Reggae Festival Sound Clash. Presently,
Rootsman was on a four clash winning streak
which got broken lately in Italy at ‘Worries in the
Area’ Sound Clash.
Rootsman Sound has been on many major
events at home such as festivals and communi-
ty Charities. One of the biggest festivals in
North America is The Montreal International
Reggae Festival and Rootsman has been
booked for five years and going strong with the
request of the fans and the promotional team.
This year, Rootsman Sound will be celebrating
their 21st Anniversary on April 14th in fine style
at the Topaz Event Centre. Watch out for the
whole crew: Ranger, Raggy Kerchief, Beenie,
Jigsy, Stallion and Randy.
