Shop Design With Urban Outfitters and All Saints a major source inspiration, I Considered what made their shops and identity so successful. Looking at key layout decisions and methods of product display, I designed various clothes rails made from scaffolding and chipboard and tables made from wooden pallets and disused crates. These ensure that displays are interesting and varied so as to engage with customers, whilst incorporating the clients identity and concept of finding beauty in rubbish. Introducing decor in-keeping with the industrial and urban theme, such as skateboards, old cogs and sewing machines and plants to clothing displays, helps to make them unique and interesting. By hanging recycled fabrics in the shop windows and using the client’s logo to incorporate identity, shoppers are educated and enticed by recycled fabrics before they have even entered. Recognising the point at which customers make critical decisions about display, lighting and pricing, the first 5-15ft of space are designed to interest and entice shoppers, allowing shoppers to enter on the corner of the buildings circulatory route. Products for sale are not included here as there are likely to be overlooked as a customer engages with the rest of the store. Essential and more mundane items are located further away but in an easy to navigate way, so shoppers can remain in control but are forced to interact with more items in order to reach them, thus enhancing sales opportunities.
