SIKA’S ONE-SYSTEM REPAIR SOLUTION SAFEGUARDS DAMAGED BALCONIES Sika supplied the high-quality repair and protection solution to extend the life of balconies within a multi-occupancy housing block. The refurbishment, at Ingledene Court in Salford, Greater Manchester involved upgrading 11 concrete balconies which had deteriorated and required urgent remedial works. Specified by the project’s contractor, Grade 2 Structural Repairs, the Sika system was employed to long-term safeguard the balconies on behalf of the occupants, as well as improve the build-ing’s aesthetic. Initial repairs to the 3.5m x 1.10m balconies involved applying anti-corrosion primer, Sika® MonoTop®-610, followed by Sika MonoTop®-615, a cementitious, high-build concrete repair mortar. Together, these products provided a seal to prevent any corrosion or degradation of the concrete and steel reinforcement. Further, Sikagard®-545 W Elastofill provided a protective crack- bridging coating, whilst the installation of Sikagard®-675 W will prevent water ingress as well as act as a superb anti-weathering, anti-ageing solution. Sikafloor®-405, a one-par, highly-elastic solvent was then applied. Sikafloor®-420, a one part, elastic, polyurethane resin coating, supplied the optimum base for Sikafloor® Level-30, the system’s fast-drying cementitious screed. Steve Parry at Grade 2 Structural Repairs, said: “This was a high-priority project due to the urgent nature and large number of repairs required. It meant a high- quality repair and protection system was needed to guarantee a time-effective, high-specification refurbishment. Sika’s durable, reliable system fulfilled the criteria precisely.” With the client’s strict timeframe to satisfy, the contractor completed the Ingledene Court refurbishment – which began in June 2019 – in just two months. Thanks to the installers’ skills and experience, and the renowned properties of Sika’s one-system concrete repair solution, the balconies have a long-term safeguard against corrosion–induced cracks and fissures.
