Mandeville Loft II
Neil Davis Architects
Overlooking a central courtyard just south of
Battersea Park, the apartments are located
on the 1st and 2nd floors of the 19th century
warehouse, which was originally built in the
as a shoe polish factory.
The clients were eager for the building’s
industrial heritage to be reflected in the
refurbished interiors. The wanted to retain
as many original features as possible be and
incorporated into the design. We stripped
the building back to the shell in order to
determine the key architectural features of
the space, and which elements to introduce
that would enhance these elements.
One of the key architectural moves was to
leave the floor structure between the two
apartments exposed. The existing steel
beams with their connections and rivets
were full of character and had to be seen.
These were sand-blasted, fire treated then
painted so that they didn’t need to be boxed
in.
