Hill House,
Brigsteer
Chetham Architecture Design
Location: Hill House is situated in the small
village of Brigsteer, on the edge of the Lake
District National Park. Although not listed, it is
reputedly the oldest property in the village. It is
built on a rocky outcrop, overlooking the Lyth
Valley.
Brief: The existing property had an attached
barn, which was used as a Workshop/Store.
The brief was to convert this outbuilding into
habitable accommodation, accessed from the
32 - www.refurbandrestore.co.uk
existing dwelling. The accommodation was to
include a new Lounge at Ground Floor level,
with an En-suite Bedroom above.
Concept: The existing dwelling currently faces
North/South. However, there are magnificent
views over the Lyth Valley to the West.
Consequently, the concept was to try and re-
orientate the building, so that the occupants
could enjoy the views from within the new
accommodation.
