SHAFTON MEWS, LONDON (HACKNEY, E9) The Client: A bachelor musician in his thirties. The Brief: To transform two tired one-bedroom flats in to a warm, inviting new two-bedroom single dwelling with a show-stopping kitchen/diner, formal entertaining space, two bathrooms and an office space. I was commissioned directly by the client, who had seen my work in other residential properties. He had already commissioned an architect to start the process of converting the two flats in to a dingle house and brought me onboard to manage the project and provide creative direction in terms of style, fittings and furnishings. My approach to any project is to marry a client’s brief with my own style, with consideration for the style and features of the property itself. My style embraces deep, earthy colours and lots of texture and the client similarly had a preference for classic, muted colours. He had recently purchased a couple of stand-out paintings by California artist, Richard Thorbird, so we used these as the basis for the colour palette. 44 - www.refurbandrestore.co.uk
