Refurb & Restore Issue 45 2026 | Page 11

To ensure absolute authenticity we sourced samples from multiple quarries, selecting new sandstone that matched the colour, texture and finish of the original. All materials were reviewed and approved by Liverpool City Council’ s Conservation Officer before work proceeded.
This project was both a privilege and a huge responsibility: the opportunity to restore such an iconic building using traditional craftsmanship, tools and techniques that honour its Victorian origins. Today, the Municipal Building stands renewed commanding the skyline, and its presence restored as one of Liverpool’ s great architectural triumphs.
