New Men of Distinction Program Started at SHU

t Siena Heights University, almost everyone has heard of the
new Multicultural Student Services program.
Those who haven’t, be ready for a handshake—if not a hug—from director Paul Spradley, who started in July. What Spradley is focusing on at
the moment, however, is what his program will accomplish. Although a
new program, there have already been some innovative initiatives he has
already started. One of these is the Men of Distinction minority male
mentoring program.
Focused mainly on SHU’s African-American, multiracial and Hispanic
male students, the program aims to assist minority young men attain their
full potential, Spradley said.
“Although the ability and intelligence is there, across the board, men of
color in college are more likely to be underachieving academically and less
likely to be involved in student leadership positions,” Spradley said.
