SHU—Benton Harbor
1960s
Daniel Patrick Pena ’01, ’08/MA is currently
working as a teaching assistant for Siena Heights
University at its Lake Michigan College campus.
He and his wife, Amber, currently reside in South
Bend, Ind.
Susan Matych Hager ’68, is the owner of Hager
Studios in Adrian, Mich. Her work in glass bead
making recently was featured in Profitable Glass
Quarterly. Two of her pieces were also selected for
the traveling juried show sponsored by the International Society of Glass Beadmakers. Two other
projects will be featured in upcoming issues of Bead
and Button Magazine. Hager is professor emeritus
from Siena Heights University, where she taught
music courses, private voice lessons, directed choirs
and served as chairperson of the Music Department
since 1973. Her work can be seen at the web site

SHU—Monroe
Stacey Kehoe ’97 married Jesse Oesterling Jan.
26, 2008, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Monroe,
Mich. The bride is employed as a store manager at
Limited Too at Somerset Collection in Troy, Mich.
The couple resides in Livonia, Mich.
John Kuriwchak ’00 was appointed to a twoyear term on the Monroe County Community
College Alumni Association Board of Directors.
He is employed with the Wolverine Packing Co.
in Detroit, Mich. He and his wife, Mary, currently
reside in Monroe, Mich., with their twin sons,
Colin and Conor.
SHU—Southfield
Alba Lucia Garcia-Camero ’01 is currently
employed as a life skills instructor for adjudicated
youth at Transition, Inc. She currently resides in
Miami, Fla.
Robin McCarthy ’04/MA married James Morr
April 26, 2008, at St. Paul’s United Methodist
Church, Monroe, Mich. The bride is the director of
nursing education and development at Henry Ford
Wyandotte Hospital. The couple resides in Monroe.
Alumni Calendar
Mary Smith-Stokes ’68 teaches basketweaving
classes throughout Michigan and has garnered
national attention as a weaver and teacher. She was
recently featured in a book highlighting basketweavers in the Great Lakes, and three of her baskets
were donated to the Michigan State Museum.
She currently resides in Battle Creek, Mich.
1970s
Gail Dotson ’77 was the Democratic candidate
running for Lenawee County Sheriff. Dotson currently serves as the undersheriff for the Sheriff’s
Department. She and her husband, Mike, reside
in Tecumseh, Mich.

2008 Annual President’s Report
1980s
Douglas Small ’82 was named president of the
Grand Rapids/Kent County (Mich.) Convention and
Visitors Bureau in September 2008. Small formerly
was the vice president of the Denver (Colo.) Metro
Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he supervised
a 63-employee staff. He and his wife, Kim, have
one daughter, Alexandra.
Dean DiCiacca ’85 has just completed writing a
new novel entitled “Give or Take a Thousand Miles”
which is available on amazon.com. One of the
original “Beautiful Losers,” he and his wife, Tanya
(Daver) ’84, currently reside in Temperance, Mich.
