From the President
At the heart of a Catholic and Dominican university is a commitment to service.
At Siena Heights, we sincerely believe
in the importance of giving back and
we hope to instill that belief in our
students as they journey with us. The
importance of reflection and action is a
deeply rooted tradition passed to us by
our founders and sponsors, the Adrian
Dominican Sisters. The sisters have
taught us the four pillars of Dominican
life – study, community, prayer and
preaching and we have adopted a theme
for the year, standing consciously on
these pillars.
The recent campaign for the University
so vividly demonstrated that you, our
alumni and friends, generously gave
back to Siena and we are deeply grateful for your support. In this edition of
Reflections you’ll read about other
forms of giving back. You’ll find a story
about a group of students and faculty
who gave back on an international scale
during a mission trip to the Dominican
Republic last spring. You’ll read about
Mary Griffin, a faculty member who
for nearly a decade has worked to raise
Leader Dogs for the Blind in an attempt
to give back and help others with vision
disabilities. We also highlight our Social
Work Program; students seeking a Social
Work degree are truly altruistic individuals who focus fully on the importance
of serving others, particularly the less
fortunate of our society.
The citizens, corporations and foundations within Lenawee County also give
generously to the University. In turn,
you’ll find many of our administrators,
faculty, and staff serving in leadership
roles on the boards of non-profit agencies and donating their time and expertise to our schools, community agencies
and civic organizations. Student organizations and athletic teams
