If only it were that easy! Great teaching is magical in its impact, wondrous in its power; but it takes
more than a magic wand. It takes dedication and hard work, commitment and creativity, an inquiring mind, and a caring heart. But the true wizardry is this: There is no great teacher without a
learner. The magic of teaching manifests itself in the wonder and excitement of learning.
In this issue of Reflections, we introduce some of the men and women who make magic by
guiding and inspiring the students of Siena Heights University. Profiled here are those members of the current full-time faculty who have received the Sister Eileen K. Rice, OP Award
for Outstanding Teaching (originally the Outstanding Teaching Award and renamed after
Eileen’s death). For a complete list of award winners, see page 16.
