Karma
The living entity in the material world carries his different
conceptions of life from one body to another as the air carries
aromas. Thus he takes one kind of body and again quits it to take
another. - BG 15:8 -
In material nature he may take a body from any of the 8,400,000
species of life, but in spiritual nature he has only one body. In
material nature he is manifested sometimes as a man, demigod,
animal, beast, bird, etc., according to his karma . To attain material
heavenly planets and enjoy their facilities, he sometimes performs
sacrifices (yajïa ), but when his merit is exhausted he returns to
earth again in the form of a man. This process is called karma .
- BG 8:3, purport -
Fruitive activities (seeking sense gratification) are cause for mate-
rial bondage. As long as one is engaged in activities aimed at im-
proving the standard of bodily comfort, one is sure to transmigrate
to different types of bodies, thereby continuing material bondage
perpetually. - BG 5:2, purport -
