My First Holy Communion
By Bernadette Murray
My First Holy Communion day was in May. It was a lovely sunny day.
We had dinner in the Mellifont Hotel.
Afterwards my brothers and I were allowed to go across the way to
the shop on the corner.
My mother’s friend Nancy gave me half a crown. I had never seen
one before.
It had a horse on the front.
My aunt sent my Communion dress from America. I was so excited I
remember jumping up and down on the bed.
My dress had puffed sleeves and I wore a little white fur jacket
with string tassels.
I bought a block of ice cream and a bottle of orange to share with
my brothers. I couldn’t believe all the change I got.
I have great memories of a lovely day.
