After we have something to eat we get
ready to go to the city Khon Kaen where
the big festival is in the north east of
Thailand. We fill a big plastic bin with
water and put it in the back of the
truck and get our water guns ready.
Some of us have got wet already by
people in passing trucks and cars. The
kids and I are in the back of our truck
ready to jump up and try and wet anyone
that we see on the way. There are so many people travelling there that
we get stuck in a traffic jam. In my first water fight I get soaked and
some of my attackers come over and put powder on my face and arms for
good luck.
When we get to the city we are early so we go for something to eat in
the shopping centre. We leave our truck there and walk to the part of
town that is closed off for the festival. It starts off with a parade of
floats and dancers and at the end of it there are some fire engines
spraying everyone with their water. We walk up and down the road
spraying water and putting powder onto as many people as we can.
No one is safe - even the police get water thrown over them. Every so
often we have to stop and fill up our water guns, or stop and listen to
some of the bands that are playing. Where the bands are there are fire
hoses with water and foam drowning everyone .The atmosphere is
fantastic. Some of the younger kids cry if you don’t spray them back. It
is getting late so we decide to go home. On our way back there is a
market with every type of food and minerals so we go from stall to stall
buying food and drinks. This has been one of the best days I’ve ever had
and there are still two more days to go!
