JUVENILE DESIGNATED FELON SUPERVISION

The Department of Community Supervision ( DCS ) does supervise certain juveniles who are transferred from the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice ( DJJ ). As part of the legislative requirement ( HB310 ), DCS is the agency primarily responsible for supervision of juveniles when such youth has been placed in restrictive custody due to the adjudication of a Class A or B designated felony act and is released from such custody .
Prior to release , a member of the Reentry Services team will join the Department of Juvenile Justice ( DJJ ) Youth Centered Reentry Team ( YCRT ) meeting . The purpose of the meeting is to identify , coordinate and foster progress of the youth ’ s needs , services , and programming intended to prepare them and their families for their return to the community .
While under DCS Supervision , juvenile cases are considered specialized and supervised by experienced officers . Community Coordinators are available to assist with identifying resources needed for this special population including educational and employment resources .
REENTRY IS NOT ALWAYS A SECOND CHANCE , BUT AT TIMES IT IS THE FIRST CHANCE FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE BEYOND THEMSELVES , THEIR CIRCUMSTANCE , AND CREATE A DIFFERENT PATH FOR THEMSELVES .
