The name "calls" dates back to the 19th century. According to Antonio Plácido, in his work "Carnival: evocation of Montevideo in the history and tradition", the appearance and final incorporation of the comparsas of blacks in the parades of carnival took place in 1865. In 1876 appeared the comparsas of blacks and lubolos , similar to the ones we know today.1 In its origins the comparsas were integrated by up to 300 components. To perform their performances on the tablados they moved on foot or on horseback (the most hierarchy). Just as today you knock on the door or the doorbell to communicate, then you were "calling" with the drums. A certain component hung his drum in a bandolier and thus he recruited most of his companions at home.2 It is also said that the "call" is due to the fact that a set of Candomberos went out on the street to play and with their sound encouraged to other toilets to join.
