Beautifully Native Why Do We Love Hip Hop? I only listen to Night Shield. For some reason maybe because it’s real; straight from the Rez life. Other than that I listen to Pow-wow and Jackie Bird. I love Jackie Bird and Gabe Night Shield. -- Karah Condon, 21 Howes, SD (USA) I grew up in Brooklyn, New York and so I’m used to that music. I just love living here in New Mexico and I have alot of Native friends and find their music to be cool. Hip Hop to me expresses feelings of today’s youth and being a single mom of 3 teenage boys (ages 15,14, and 13), that is important for them to do with no father figure in their life but sports to keep them off the streets or try at least. Music is what they live. -- Georgianna Godla, 37, Albuquerque, NM (USA) Hip-Hop Has been dope since day One Hip-Hop Has mad fun since I was a shorty Sista breakin on Card board boxes dancing to Hammer, 357 Mad fun showing off new moves at homegirls party got mad funk in my left pinky like loxes Hip-Hop was there when nooone was it can make me smile like noone does Why I love hip-hop cause I feel hip-hop and Hip-hop feels me. -- Arlana Omaha, 28, Minneapolis, MN (USA) I love Hip Hop because, unlike all the rest it takes me to a place within that I can relate to. It takes me out of the chaos of the world and lets me look at things from a different point of view and plus it has those ever-so-awesome beats that you can shake it to! Yeah sometimes vocals can be a little wack but that’s part of its charm. -- Regina Crume-Barney, 31 Klamath Falls, OR (USA) Hey ya all, See I work in the courts, helping the YOUTH... I use some of your songs to help them. (Yes I buy all the CDs and don’t download them) Anyhoo, this helps them.... the way your words flow and that they can relate too. The world today is different from how the culture of the past. If I can help just one of the youth, making them understand that there is a better way of life other than crime, I have done my job. When a kid talks and sometime cries, I have helped them but I make them listen to your words in the Hip Hop sense... they even make me sit down when I try (TRY) to dance www.redhoneymag.net (not a pretty sight). Keep up the good work...... you are here for a reason, don’t stop doing what ya do!!!!! HAI HAI -- Lu Joshua, Vancouver, BC (CAN) Why I love Hip Hop? It’s a way of Life or any way you’re comfortable expressing yourself thru lyrics, fashion, and attitude, you know . . . just a freedom we all have: to live freely and express ourselves freely in this world of prisons and wars. But it is all you need if you want to rise above all the negatives in this world of ours. You know, just let yourself shine. These are things I’m happy to believe in and to be a part of, so it’s all good and one love baby. -- Paul Gravatt, 27, Los Angeles, CA (USA) Archive Edition 2013 59
