R&B’s New Star Y ou may have seen her on Myspace.com, perhaps swung by her website to check her new video? Well, Candis Francis is a fresh new face (and voice) that you don’t want to miss out on. Miss Candis is a 22-year-old Canadian of Algonkin and Jamaican descent who has been singing since the age of 12. Her mother is Algonkin from Timiskaming, Quebec. Although already performing shows and even going on tour last year (in Europe), Candis has just released her debut album on Chey B Records titled “All Night”. Do you feel that it puts added stress to producing your music and getting it out there? Do you tend to steel yourself against the public eye or open yourself up to it? Not yet, I haven’t felt that stress, but you do have to watch what you say in interviews and such because it can be construed in a negative way. I love the fans, and people in general so the attention is welcomed. Do you participate in any activities like Pow-wows or dance? I did mostly when I was younger, I still would I just don’t always get a chance to participate, and they’re not as frequent or as well publicized here in California. What’s your favorite part of your job? Meeting new great people, getting praised for being good at something I love to do. Where do you hope to be with your career in 5 years time? Are you still a Canadian citizen? And what place feels most like home? Yes of course I am a Canadian, you don’t lose that! Although now that I’m settled here in California I certainly know it as my home. How long have you been with Chey B records? Since the Founding of the company, I’m the main reason it was established. How did you get signed by your label? It’s a family company. What or who are some of your musical influences? Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Erykah Badu, etc. Do you write your own songs? If so, do you have a particular source of inspiration? Of course, I draw a lot from personal experience, but I love to write so I get really creative and embellish stories so a broad audience is able to relate with the subjects.
