Relationships/Beauty/Health Although the company officially came to life in 1999, the idea began as a need for quality skin care for Monica’s son, Kevin, who was born with severe eczema. After finding nothing on the market to meet his needs, Monica set out to learn more about “natural ingredients that would promote healing”. Marina Turning Robe and Monica Simeon “We distribute our products to tribal-owned casino resorts”, says Monica. “We’ve been doing this successfully since 1999, [we] have established a presence on the marketplace and continue to grow Sister Sky.” In starting the business, their focus was not so much on profit, but on economic unity in Indian country. “We would like to see Native-owned businesses profit and succeed.” They stress the importance of buying Native goods and supporting Native-owned businesses everywhere. Sister Sky leads by example. They have shared their experiences with Native-owned businesses and in doing so, have been honored with the Spokane Enterpreneur Leadership Award. Monica’s advice to you is to “be really dedicated and determined in whatever your dream is and follow through. Be focused and committed [as well as] patient.
