Always in need of money, Mozart took on several major commissions under severe time constraint towards the end of his life, including one from a mysterious masked stranger to write a requiem – Mass for the Dead – which he came to believe was for himself. The work was left unfinished as his body was being buried in an unmarked grave. Elegance and tastefulness abound in Mozart’s music. After a few unsuccessful attempts to make it as a court musician in Salzburg, Austria (his hometown), Mozart moved to Vienna when he was 25.
