NQ Dry Tropics acknowledges , recognises and celebrates the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have in caring for Country . We respect the enduring spiritual and physical connection to Country , and value the importance and diversity of the knowledge and understanding of Traditional Owners , which is based on a history of more than 60,000 years .
As a Natural Resource Management ( NRM ) organisation , we can contribute to and revitalise the respect for cultural knowledge and connection of Traditional Owners with Country across the Burdekin Dry Tropics region . We envision a future where Traditional Owner knowledge and leadership is widely celebrated , respected and applied in NRM . NQ Dry Tropics is committed to empowering Traditional Owners of the Burdekin Dry Tropics region and working together with all stakeholders to care for Country . This Reconciliation Action Plan identifies how we can more meaningfully contribute towards reconciliation through truth telling and education , and by strengthening our own organisational cultural competence . We will develop and leverage a range of economic and social opportunities through proactive partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples , and with the broader NRM network .
