“ While it is true that we reach more people , there is no substitute for facetoface interactions for creating relationships with others ,” Hall said .
Doubroux added : “ The know , like , and touch factor is less . There is no opportunity for networking and oneonone interactions and conversations or time to enjoy a meal or drink together to bond better .”
Dozens of news articles discuss the problems of “ Zoom bombers ,” where people with bad intentions disrupt meetings with racist or sexual content . Grimm recommends that online event planners take the following steps to keep their virtual rooms safe .
According to Hall , there ’ s no need to panic about potential online trouble .
“ Now sites like Zoom have passwords for meetings and the host has more control over who may or may not speak ,” she said . “ There will always be hackers , but now the software does provide more control to the host .”
However , even if there were a perfect solution to eliminate the problem with online trolls , it would still important to have tech staff on hand , according to Grimm .
“ Have an assistant there to monitor the chat and engage with the audience ,” he advised . “ Also , test your presentation system and tech controls immediately before each event .”
To draw people to an online event , planners can use a combination of emails , social media , phone calls , collaboration , and online advertising , according to Doubroux .
“ With a plan to pivot and a team to implement , online events can be just as effective and financially beneficial as in person ,” she added . “ But I hope it is not the only way of the future .”
1 . Require a password .
2 . Have someone running the tech and staying as vigilant as they can be at all times .
3 . Make sure the tech person has an extra screen open where they login as an attendee and can see what the attendees see in order to react quickly .
