highlights of their life on social media, nobody wants to broadcast their failures and such, and that’s fine. However, some people, for example, some people who suffer from depression, might look at their social media and just see all their friends and family living these great happy lives, which puts them at risk of falling even deeper into
depression. Having constant access to cell phones, also decreases our ability to think critically. Since, whenever we encounter a slight problem a quick google search will tell us what to do right away, rather than taking a minute to try and solve the problem ourselves.
Overall, cell phones have benefitted society in some ways, but we can’t ignore the negative consequences that their creation has produced. I believe that we need to reconsider our values as a culture since this technology has had such an influence on our lives. For example, communication, we value this as a culture but is skyping and texting really an effective means of communication? You can’t truly get to know a person through a phone because you’re only going to know what they want you to know. You won’t get any of their little quirks or flaws and you can’t truly make memories through a phone. If the individuals are functioning happily than the society benefits, and humans are designed for social interaction and phones just can’t replicate that experience.
