Theme‘ SOLUTION OF QUADRATIC EQUATIONS‘
Class 1 st( age 15)
Teachers: Laima Duglas, Laimutė Indilienė Aim:
- solve quadratic equations Objectives:
- solve quadratic equations applying solution algorithm of quadratic equations, working individually and in pairs, cooperating with the teacher
Knowledge and understanding: know how to use formulas, their notes, perform arithmetic actions, use different means of calculating
Methods: working in pairs and individually. Steps of the class:
Each student receives an envelope. Each envelope contains seven colorful cards with quadratic equations. Students lay out the cards, deliver the tasks and have to organize a rainbow from the cards. One card consists of two parts: an answer and a task. Students have the task on the right of the card and they have to find the answer on the card on the left,
for example below 0; 1 X 2-9 = 0-3; 3 X 2-5x-6 = 0
The task is differentiated. Students can organize one, two or three rainbows under their abilities. Thus, they assess themselves.
Reflection:
LOTO lessons can be organized at the end of the school year, when students are less motivated before their holidays, it may be applied for the revision of any theme. The practice proved that having this model of the class it can be applied to any age group and can influence to the results encouraging students‘ individual work and being active in participation of their learning process. In the classes of LOTO the tasks are directed to practical and gaming activities. Students are encouraged to perform tasks in qualitative way. Each student‘ s work is assessed and self-assessed. During several years it has been noticed that while preparing for the class it is important to consider the main peculiarities of student‘ s psychological age, therefore it is important that tasks are linked with gaming elements.
