YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH
Women in
Wellness…Your Story
Matters
By Terri Jackson Carson
The strongest actions for a woman is to love herself, be herself and shine
amongst those who never believed she could. - Author Unknown. Today
women are faced with many challenges that can be detrimental to her
health. Multiple challenges such as depression, divorce, domestic violence
and or disease are the most common.
As a licensed WellCoach and certified wellness coach of 15 years, I meet,
coach, and mentor women today who continue to pave the way for our
upcoming young adult women to honor their self-worth and value their
self-care despite the challenges. Today more women are accepting the
challenges and exercising coping mechanisms that give empowerment and
support.
A woman in wellness who I admire and have respect for was diagnosed with
cancer 3 times in the course of 7 years. First diagnosis Non - Hodgkin’s
Disease Lymphoma in 2001. Josi participated in Chemotherapy and
Radiation. The second diagnosis in 2003 and she chose stem - cell transplant
for treatment. The third diagnosis was in 2008 and Josi followed her heart
and her faith and chose alternative medicine, meditation, and the spiritual
component of wellness. She recognized that her body is a temple and she
needed to honor it with God, self-care, and nutrition; 1 Corinthians 6:19 - 20
(NLT). “Cancer was a blessing and through the diagnosis my prayers for
freedom from stress were answered.” Josi is a woman in wellness.
Cancer is one disease to overcome but heart disease is still the #1 Killer in
women than all cancers combined. According to the American Heart Disease
Association, today every 80 seconds a woman dies from heart disease, where
as one year ago AHA reported every 60 seconds heart disease took the lives
of women.
