YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH Women in Wellness…Your Story Matters By Terri Jackson Carson The strongest actions for a woman is to love herself, be herself and shine amongst those who never believed she could. - Author Unknown. Today women are faced with many challenges that can be detrimental to her health. Multiple challenges such as depression, divorce, domestic violence and or disease are the most common. As a licensed WellCoach and certified wellness coach of 15 years, I meet, coach, and mentor women today who continue to pave the way for our upcoming young adult women to honor their self-worth and value their self-care despite the challenges. Today more women are accepting the challenges and exercising coping mechanisms that give empowerment and support. A woman in wellness who I admire and have respect for was diagnosed with cancer 3 times in the course of 7 years. First diagnosis Non - Hodgkin’s Disease Lymphoma in 2001. Josi participated in Chemotherapy and Radiation. The second diagnosis in 2003 and she chose stem - cell transplant for treatment. The third diagnosis was in 2008 and Josi followed her heart and her faith and chose alternative medicine, meditation, and the spiritual component of wellness. She recognized that her body is a temple and she needed to honor it with God, self-care, and nutrition; 1 Corinthians 6:19 - 20 (NLT). “Cancer was a blessing and through the diagnosis my prayers for freedom from stress were answered.” Josi is a woman in wellness. Cancer is one disease to overcome but heart disease is still the #1 Killer in women than all cancers combined. According to the American Heart Disease Association, today every 80 seconds a woman dies from heart disease, where as one year ago AHA reported every 60 seconds heart disease took the lives of women.
