Moms, we need you to know how much you’ve taught us.
You taught us how to speak. You taught us to walk. You’ve taught us respect and kindness. You’ve taught us how to love those who are worthy, with all of the love that they deserve. And most of all, you’ve taught us to be ourselves- to find our paths and to follow them- you’ve taught us to do what makes us happy. But in this lesson that you’ve taught us, I find that it’s sometimes hard for you to accept our life changes as they happen. We all change. We all grow. We all learn. Sometimes, we change for the better; sometimes we take a dip down the dark side until we can find the light again. But, what’s most important about our changes is that they make us stronger, they bring us happiness in the end because we have learned from what life has presented us.
This is a strange world that we all inhabit. It’s a world full of wonder, full of hope, full of life, but it is also a world full of hate and condemnation and judgment. As our mom, we don’t put you in the same category as the rest of our world. You are mom. You are our best friend. You are the one person that we expect to love us and support us at all costs. And so, it really makes me sad when I see films or read stories of mothers “disowning” their daughters or “cutting them off”.
