My main problem with the Democrats hijacking the poor for political reasons is because in many respects the Government (when headed by either party) has created an environment that keeps people poor and dependent. The party insiders are well-compensated and connected, but the lowly peons get the crumbs. In addition to the Government’s motives, the Church has done and is doing a horrible job of following Christ’s commandment to care for the poor. Hence, a societal economic vacuum has been created and the Government filled it. So now, people are more inclined than ever to seek out the Government for help, rather than the institution (the Body of Christ) that God created to be the community safety net; and when problems are solved without the wisdom of God, then things like debt, lack, various forms of dysfunction, and a host of other side effects manifest like a pharmaceutical drug.

The political culture is such that we (Christ’s followers) cannot continue to place our pride in a membership to a party over the principles of our faith, and we can no longer make excuses for our particular party of choice. We also can’t depose ourselves of the responsibilities that God gave us and use our collective actions in or support of a political party as a hiding place or a justification for our current state of “do-nothing.” Our words and our deeds must be aligned with God’s Word. Like I said earlier, God did not create either party, so the probability of the parties to have ill motives and to be coaxed to do immoral favors for a lot of money exists. But if believers are going to join parties, we must expose the unfruitful works of darkness and let our light shine before men so that the world will see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.

Stay tuned, folks. The upcoming conventions are going to be an interesting ride…
