Due to the power and potential to overwhelm in corporate settings, I strongly advise against wearing a red dress shirt, but rather a tie consisting of red or even just a pocket square that has some red in it.

The occasions that I suggest it’s inappropriate to wear red includes:

• When negotiating with everyday people/clients outside of a traditional corporate setting

• In softer/low pressure selling environments

• Job interviews as this could send signals of arrogance, rebellion and the message you aren’t a team player

• During more relaxed settings when you want to put people at ease or not appear too dominant

• Meetings involving conflict resolution or damage control
