EDITORS LETTER
Dear Investor ,
It ’ s party time and you ’ re our special guest . We celebrate the 150th edition of REI Magazine and our Company ’ s 15th Birthday in September , and without loyal readers like yourself , none of this would have been possible and all rather pointless at the end of the day .
Please don ’ t quote me on the precise ratio , but one human year is equivalent to at least 10 magazine years in my reckoning . When every upcoming edition is a race against looming deadlines you have to march to the beat of time in doublestep . That ' s why magazine titles ( and the people who work on them ) tend to age much faster than our contemporaries in other industries .
Because it is our Birthday , I ’ m allowed to boast . So let me just say that for REI magazine to survive and thrive for 15 years in the South African media landscape is quite the achievement in itself .
Think back 15 years ago ; there wasn ’ t a word for loadshedding or state capture , and one US Dollar only cost R7.39 , which was more than enough for a litre of petrol . Since then , it seems we have had to endure one crisis after another . From global recessions to the Zuma years of unfathomable corruption , or Day Zero and national scale looting - there has been no shortage of local drama that ' s for sure . And all this was just a curtain raiser before a global pandemic and two years of lockdown which saw businesses fold and economies crumble around the world .
So , if you ’ re reading this , take a moment to give yourself a self congratulatory fist pump right now - not just for your excellent taste in real estate investment magazines , but for also getting through the last 15 crazy years with most of your investment plans and sanity intact . Let ’ s be proud that you , me , REI Magazine are still standing . And more than that , we are still researching and exploring ways to invest in our financial freedom for the future .
I ’ m not going to hazard a guess on what the next 15 years will bring other than it ' s going to be a wild ride . Thank you for joining us on our journey so far , the experience we ' ve gained together has made us fight-fit to overcome whatever the future has in store . To another successful 15 years in your company , here we come !
