Construction has been completed on the first of seven new buildings , which will collectively deliver more than 50,000m2 of mixeduse development bulk , and add at least 1,200 residential opportunities aimed at low to middle income households .
The Maitland Metro concept was unveiled by the Managing Director of BlueBuck Projects , Shaun Reznik , at the City of Cape Town ’ s Affordable Housing Indaba in April 2022 , and was acclaimed as a significant urban renewal plan for the city , and a project of great interest .
The first of these developments , The Prime , is a 143-apartment building which is now fully let . A second major development in the precinct , Maitland Mews , is currently under construction . This R93-million social housing project will deliver an additional 204 affordable rental units , with a scheduled completion date of January 2023 .
The initiative , branded as Maitland Metro , is being spearheaded by BlueBluck Projects , in cooperation with national and local government authorities , and in collaboration with Madulammoho Housing Association and The Maitland City Improvement District .
